Under the Trump administration, people have had a mixed response to Dr. Fauci with many of Trump’s supporters calling for his firing. Now, President-Elect Joe Biden has announced that he has asked Dr. Fauci to be his chief medical advisor as he will attempt to lead the nation to the end of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Like Regina King, George Clooney is being recognized for his professional contributions including his 2020 film The Midnight Sky that has garnered Oscar buzz. George has long been recognized for his charitable contributions and People is recognizing him for his monetary contributions that he made this year. Without generating a lot of fanfare, George Clooney donated $1 million to fight COVID-19, $500,000 to the Equal Justice Initiative, and to causes such as Lebanese charities.

Selena Gomez is being recognized for her professional contributions that include her album Rare, her HBO Max show Selena + Chef, and pledged to donate 100 million over 10 years from her makeup company’s Rare Beauty’s sales to help combat mental health issues.
This marks the second annual People of the Year issue that features four honorees and covers. The special, double issue will be released on December 4, 2020.
